The Google Business Profile checklist for med spas, clinics and studios

By Ramsey McDowell · October 14, 2026 · 6 min read

Short answer: to show up in Google's map results, a health, wellness or fitness business needs the right primary category, a complete list of services, real photos, a steady flow of reviews, and business details that match everywhere online. Proximity matters too, but those are the parts you control.

What are the basics every profile needs?

  • Claim and verify the profile, and make sure you, not a former employee or agency, own it.
  • Use your real business name. Adding keywords or cities to the name can get a profile suspended.
  • Match your name, phone and website exactly to your site and other listings.
  • Set accurate hours, including holiday hours, so people do not show up to a closed door.
  • Add a booking link that goes straight to your scheduler or a page with a clear booking button.
  • Service-area businesses that work by appointment only, or travel to clients, can hide their address and list the areas they serve instead.

Which categories and services should I choose?

Your primary category has the biggest effect on which searches you show up for. Choose the one that best describes your main business, such as Medical spa, Wellness center or Personal trainer, then add a few secondary categories that genuinely apply.

Then fill out the services section completely. List each treatment or program by the name people actually search for, with a short plain description. "Botox", "Laser hair removal" and "Small group training" are more useful than internal package names.

How many photos and reviews do I need?

There is no magic number, but more real, recent content builds trust:

  • Photos: your exterior and entrance (so people can find you), treatment rooms or training space, your team, and your logo and cover image. Replace stock photos with real ones.
  • Reviews: ask every happy patient or client, every week, with a direct review link. A steady flow matters more than a burst.
  • Replies: respond to every review, good or bad, politely. For healthcare businesses, never confirm someone is a patient or mention treatment details in a reply.

How do I keep the profile active?

  • Post updates a few times a month: new services, seasonal offers, events.
  • Answer questions in the Q&A section before someone else answers them wrongly.
  • Add new photos regularly.
  • Check for edits other people suggest to your hours, phone or website, and correct them.

How do I know if my profile is working?

Add tracking parameters to your website link so visits from your profile show up separately in Google Analytics, and watch the calls, direction requests and bookings in the profile's performance report. Then compare those with bookings in your schedule. We cover the full setup in what to track before you spend more on ads.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I put keywords in my Google Business Profile name?

No. Use your real business name. Adding keywords or city names that are not part of your legal or branded name breaks Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended.

Should a med spa hide its address on Google?

Only if patients do not visit the location. Med spas and clinics that see patients on site should show their address. Businesses that travel to clients or work by appointment only at other locations can hide it and list a service area.
